Tāmaki Makaurau artist Benjamin Mack releases his first EP ‘Lonely Winter Castle’, on the last day of Southern Winter.
Featuring the already released single ‘Up For Grabs’, the EP includes four brand new songs; ‘Darling’, ‘Back and Forth’, ‘Let The Doorbell Ring’ and ‘Dusty Walls - Demo’.
The narrative of the extended play “in a sense, follows the five stages of grief,” Benjamin explains. “Each track flows into another state of mind, starting with an over-romanticised relationship, then motions of denial, anger, delusion and finally, acceptance.”
Written throughout his time in the Parachute Development Programme, whilst house-sitting in his ‘lonely winter castle’, the artist drew inspiration from those around him for this fictional world. Working with his collaborators on the project, he got into the studio to explore themes of loneliness. Benjamin describes the experience as a “pivotal point in my writing and key to my development as an artist.”
You can next catch Benjamin Mack performing live alongside Masaya, Friday 21st October at The Yard in Raglan, the first of a few shows to be announced this Spring. Tickets are available from ticketspace.nz.
‘Lonely Winter Castle’ is out now, on all streaming platforms.
