Following the 2022 releases of ‘My World’ and ‘Some Days’, Anderson Rocio’s next offering, ‘Mood Swings’, is her most stripped back single to date.
Audiences were first introduced to the track through a sync placement on Season 3, Episode 10 of the Oprah Winfrey Network’s show All Rise, of which the artist admits she forgot she wrote it. “I heard it and thought, this needs to be out in the world,” Anderson says, “there’s just something about it that I love.”
Written about being on the receiving end of someone else’s mood, Anderson explains “people's moods can change like the weather and when we aren't communicating, we're left with the crashing waves of moods.” She then poses the question of “if we knew what someone was thinking, maybe we could understand them better? Maybe we could say the right thing.”
Complementing the lyrics of the track are perfectly curated layers of production. The ukulele picks up the rhythm and reflects an ‘ache’ feeling half way through, with acoustic guitar and rain throughout. Stating there was “an honesty and imperfection in the original recording,” Anderson kept the first vocal take for the finished master, truly showcasing the raw talent the artist holds.
