A track for the summer dancefloor, talented New Zealand singer-songwriter Eve Kelly has today released her new pop single, ‘Summer Lovin’.
‘Summer Lovin’ delivers summer pop dreamin’, dance and funk that you can blast on the beach or spin on the roller disco dance floor.
For this track, Eve Kelly teamed up with friend and fellow artist Kristin Paulse (KRISTN, Citris iNK) for the songwriting, then recorded, mixed and mastered it at Auckland's Wyre and Parachute Studios with producer/engineer Christian Tjandrawinata.
“It’s about being young and having some non-committal fun!” says Eve. “One of my favourite bands is Boston-based Couch, and their funky tune ‘I’m still feeling you’ really stuck out to me, so I wanted to create something with a similar groove. That’s why I had to get in the incredible Nick Taylor to play live bass for me. The funky vibe of the song is going more in the direction of the type of music I like to listen to and is representing my fun, young & free period!”
Also out today is a dreamy video made by respected Ōtautahi production group AppleBox and directed by Charlie Rose Creative. “The video shows an exciting, sorta steamy and light-hearted connection with someone. It’s not about a romantic connection, just beautiful summer fun.”
Eve Kelly (Ngāti Porou, Ngāpuhi) has been developing her craft in theatre and music since she was just 5 years old. Born and raised in Whakatāne, her classically trained background and career in musical performance has helped her find her footing as a songwriter, with her sound developing into a whimsical mix of adult contemporary, gospel, soul, funk and pop.
Today’s release follows singles ‘Boy’ (Apple Music New Music Daily! New In Pop (AU/NZ) NZOA NewTracks, The Feed), ‘Mr Big Shot’ (RDU Top 10, SRN, The Project), ‘Dance with Me’ and debut ‘Gotta Let Go’ (2022).
She can be found between Whakatāne, Auckland and Christchurch - where she performs her own shows with a 5-piece band, and in theatre productions - most recently Ōtautahi Court Theatre’s ‘Something Rotten!’. Eve Kelly is definitely an Aotearoa artist to watch!
