In July 2023, Brooke Singer and her dream-pop band French for Rabbits entered the Surgery Studios in Wellington, New Zealand to record a follow up to their 2021 Taite nominated long-player ‘The Overflow’. After an intensive week including a string recording session at Roundhead Studio in Auckland, they emerged with a new collection titled 'In the End I Won't Be Coming Home'. The self-funded EP is due for release later in the year, but the band are thrilled to be premiering it live on a tour kicking off this week presented by Chamber Music New Zealand.
The songs on the EP were written to be performed live - and on the record and in concert they are joined by The Black Quartet. For these shows, they have worked with Elliot Vaughan, Mahuia Bridgman-Cooper and Mikal Cronin (from US Psychedelic Garage band, Ty Segall) to develop string quartet arrangements for the new material and songs from previous releases.
On the EP The Black Quartet weave their way around the band deftly evoking the sounds of Aotearoa’s landscapes - a dawn chorus welcoming listeners in, the swirl and eddies of a swift river, and the blustery winds that whip around the Wellington coastline. The first single 'Baring Head' is due for release this month, but until then - don't miss the chance to see the band in full flight this September at one of four breathtaking concerts around the motu. Consider this your EP release invitation!
