Emerging Samoan artist Matt Nanai has today released his pop love song ‘I Need Somebody’.

Listen to ’I Need Somebody’ HERE

Sonically ‘I Need Somebody’ will transport you to some of cinema’s greatest love stories and their iconic scenes. Matt says that his soundtrack-ready song is “about wanting to do amazing things for someone but can’t in real life, so I’ve created my own Superhero story.”

Created with the help of NZOA New Music Pasifika funding, it follows on from his explosive debut single ‘Let’s Dance’ and was entirely performed/recorded and produced by the artist himself, with the exception of Moiho Leaupepe on lead guitar, Nate Peseta on vocals and mixing by Scott Seabright.

Accompanying the single are his very own superhero visuals by animator Articulate aka Uelese Vavae.

Self-described as a ‘jukebox of Soul, Gospel, Funk, R&B, Reggae & Pop’ Matt hails from Tāmaki Makaurau’s Mount Roskill, where he grew up being surrounded by music through church, family and friends. Musical influence also came from the Underground Industry, fellow Aotearoa musicians, and artists such as John Mayer and Michael Jackson. He’s been on the scene for 10 years, performing as lead singer/guitarist for Auckland venue Sweat Shop’s Friday night band The Beat Council, and playing guitar for some of Aotearoa’s top acts. Now, he’s stepping further into the spotlight as a solo artist. With two incredible singles released and much more to come from this up-and-comer - Matt Nanai is a name to remember!
