CAITLIN’s new single Kitchen follows two upbeat singles released earlier this year. This mellow indie-pop single is full of ethereal sounds, with a beautiful melody that will transport you to a quiet night’s beach sunset in an instant. CAITLIN’s new single is different to her past two driving singles, showing her diversity and sentimental writing.
The lyrics “Say it ain’t so is playing on the radio. If you knew the words maybe I’d take you home. You don’t play the drums, so I am wasting time. All you of your problems are never mine” sum up the main aspect of the song. As a musician, we can often feel pressured to date people that share the same love for music. Kitchen explores falling for someone who may not be a musician but supports you in every aspect of your life.
Inspired by indie-pop sensations Julia Jacklin, Faye Webster, and Spacey Jane, the songwriter has defined her unique sound in the indie-pop genre. Kitchen was inspired by the production of artist such as Ethan Gruska and Bon Iver. Produced and mixed by Ryan Fisherman, they created an open, mellow sounding song that carries a gentle power in the melody. Kitchen is the third release with announcement of her debut EP not far around the corner for this young songwriter. The song features backing vocals by Will McGillivray of Goodwill. Thomas Isbister features on lead guitar, keys and other elements of the soundscape. Both Christchurch artists well-respected for their talents.
“Kitchen is one of my favourite songs of the upcoming EP. It’s sentimental, and the understated lyrics in the chorus become more meaningful as the song progresses. I can’t wait for the world to hear it!”
