Ashy 'Mirror' feat. Vallé

Christchurch pop star ASHY shares her new single ‘Mirror’. Enlisting the slick rhymes of fellow Christchurch artist Vallé, ‘Mirror’ is effortlessly cool. Foot tapping bass transforms the song into a feverish groove, laying a platform for ASHY’s poise vocals to narrate her experiences of representation in mainstream media. Written at an APRA Songhubs alongside Tami Neilson, Vallé, Name UL & Josie Moon, with production credits to Name UL (Emanuel Psathas) and Liam Quinn

On the single, ASHY details; '‘Mirror’ is a song about representation. I have subconsciously wanted to share this story that I’m talking about in this song for a long time. It’s about me as a kid seeing someone on TV that looked like me for the first time and realising I’d never seen that before.

It’s a story that is more empowering than anything. I wanted to take a celebratory approach to this narrative and say that I want to be a mirror for people that don’t otherwise see themselves.

In the song, Vallé talks about his own story and how he’s dealt with the conflict between his roots & materialism. This sonically has a confidence that is also expressed through the lyrics, melody and narrative overall. ‘Mirror’ is about feeling seen and being heard, no matter what your story. I hope the listeners have a lot of fun with this track.'
