Brand new music business seminar and mentoring series to support emerging Canterbury artists and upcoming music professionals

With the help of the New Zealand Music Commission, SOLE Music Academy has put together a brand new music business seminar and mentoring series to support emerging Canterbury artists and upcoming music professionals. THE ARTIST is the first of 6 live music seminars, held on Monday 16th August at SOLE Music Academy Studio in Addington, Christchurch.

The series was curated by Sacha Vee, founder of SOLE Music Academy, to cover important aspects fundamental to developing a career in the music industry and to counteract the disconnect between the North and South island music industry. Each 2hr event has one specific topic and three of the country's leading music industry professionals such as, Mikee Tucker (L.A.B., LOOP), Lorraine Barry (Dave Dobbyn, Aaradhna), Jeff Newton (NZ On Air), Cushla Aston (Louis Baker, Julia Deans) and Devin Abrams (Shapeshifter, Pacific Heights) who will cover everything you need to know about how to make and release your music successfully.

An important facet of the series was that our local talent could have a chance to meet face to face to form ongoing relationships with the industry professionals and other attendees to build their music network and community. To encourage this, there will be a Q&A with the speakers and the opportunity to network with other attendees & speakers. Attendees will also have the rare opportunity to book in a 1:1 private mentoring session to delve further into their own music goals and plans to establish or develop their own music business.

In the first live seminar THE ARTIST, attendees will hear from one of New Zealand’s top artist managers and artist development lecturer, Cushla Aston (Louis Baker & Julia Deans); Sacha Vee multi-platinum award winning artist and founder of SOLE Music Academy that was created to help support new emerging artists start their own music careers, and the Award-winning ‘First Lady of Drum & Bass’’ MC Tali whose extensive trailblazing career in music includes a top UK hit single.

Together they will take you through the crucial developmental steps that you need to take to establish yourself as an artist and explain what it takes to make it in today’s music industry.

BACKGROUND

SOLE Music Academy is the brainchild of Sacha Vee, multi-platinum award winning artist and founder of SOLE Music Academy, to create a guided pathway for those seeking work in the music industry (artists, aspiring manager, promoters, producers etc.) and to solve the problem of local artists feeling isolated from the North Island music industry and the rest of the world.

For the past three years, SOLE Music Academy has provided quality music workshops, tuition and master classes in singing, songwriting, producing, artist development and music business to cultivate, support and empower music creatives to achieve a career in the music industry. They have already achieved much success and now boast 150 students and 10 inspiring mentors as well as a flourishing reputation within Christchurch and beyond.

As well as creating a world class academy, SOLE’s broader aim is to become the central music industry hub for Christchurch and surrounding regions so musicians can develop their careers locally by strengthening local networks and connections, and connect with industry heads locally.
