Happiness is a red balloon. Tāmaki Makaurau alternative dance act Substax release Red Balloon, their second single for 2021, through DRM NZ today 22 October 2021
A song for the times, this is a dance music duet featuring both Claudia and Nick on vocals. It is somewhat of a meditation on the meaning of happiness, expressing nostalgia for summers gone by, and musings on the complexities of love.
The sound is crunchy, curving and kinetic, and the release is twinned with an inspired remix by Auckland producer Roger Atmore aka truthdk.
Atmore recorded new live parts (guitar, bass, percussion and fruity backing vocals), complimented by some studio wizardry; harmonic and textured effects.
The end result is something like a deep house fusion of The Stones Roses and Tame Impala.
This release is accompanied by an immersive video cut on Youtube, produced by Substax’s Claudia Gunn.
