Raglan-based Masaya band is about to release a brand new single ‘Ride wit Us’.
As with many of their tracks this is about getting onboard the band's vibe at live gigs.
It's a call to arms. “Ride wit Us is a song that pulls anyone and everyone out of their comfort zones to let loose for one big boogie,” says lead vocalist for Masaya, Reiki Ruawai.
“Sometimes when we’re playing shows we see people wanting to engage but they may be a little afraid to cut loose”, says drummer and co-writer for Masaya, Kaea Ruawai.
She adds that her brother and she wanted to write a song, “ that draws people out of the fringes and gets them in the pit”.
The track was recorded and mixed in Raglan at CSR Studios. It was then mastered at Metropolis Studios in London by Engineer Tony Cousins (Adele, Seal, The Verve, Massive Attack…)
The band believes that genres are not that important and can be restricting for artists.
With a straight up the guts kick and smack track Ride wit Us has jinga jick gat, rocky riffs, funky synth & organ bubble grooves with stomping four on the floor boots adding to their unique style quintessentially influenced from their Hometown in Raglan, NZ
Masaya are starting to flex and have a solid summer ahead of them. They have been announced to play Homegrown, Sundown Festival, Tora Bombora and Outfields Festival this summer with more shows yet to be announced.
Masaya was formed in 2019 when lead singer Reiki Ruawai needed to put together a band for a university assignment. He coaxed his sister, Kaea, to jump on the drums and friend Muroki to play bass. Performing as a three-piece for a short time before they were joined by Jules Blewman (TOI) on lead guitar and Joe Kaptein on keys. As a five-piece, they recorded their 2019 EP, TONGUE & GROOVE and have been playing successful live shows and festivals ever since. Check out Masaya Band below.
