Maciek Hrybowicz is a Polish musician, living in Hamilton, New Zealand. His latest album AWA is out now and is available on Spotify and all other digital platforms. It is also available on CD.
AWA is inspired by the three main rivers he has lived by: The Waikato, The Thames and The Vistula and driven by the beauty and nature of Aotearoa which has amazed and humbled him, since moving to New Zealand with his wife in 2014. Maciek has collaborated with a range of musicians on this album, including Māori, Polish, English, Hungarian and Uruguayan.
His background is interesting: he escaped communism in 1975 and moved to London where he played with a number of punk bands, including the Warm Jets. As his musical skill developed he became a very accomplished jazz guitarist and played and recorded with a number of well-known jazz artists and groups including Carol Grimes (https://www.discogs.com/artist/468717-Carol-Grimes). He gave concerts at famous jazz venues across Europe, worked as a session musician and composed for most of his life.
