King Sweeties strike again: The dulcimer reign of New Zealand's favourite pop nouveau duo continues with another dance-perfect single, “Tonight We Could Go Out Dancing (As If It’s the Last)”. This upbeat, rhythm-driven apocalyptic party banger completes their trifecta of releases, readying the red carpet for their upcoming EP We Are the Bosses. Bandmates and partners-in-crown Bic Runga and Cass Basil (Tiny Ruins, Carnivorous Plant Society) make new sonic waves in their post punk head-bopping mission to get us all onto the dance floor.
Cass says, “We wrote the lyrics to the song pre-pandemic, but 2020 has brought a whole new meaning to it (as it has with every song ever written). This song is about remaining hopeful in tough times. We hope it brings you some joy!”
Tāmaki Makaurau-based illustrator Frances Haszard graces us with her visual signature on Tonight We Could Go Out Dancing (As If It’s the Last) - dazzling with abstract rhythmic line images, morphing silhouettes, a kaleidoscope of body parts and errant alter egos expressed as the big bad wolf.
Tonight We Could Go Out Dancing (As If It’s the Last) features Cass Basil on Bass and Vocal; Bic Runga on Drums and Vocal, and was engineered and produced by Bic Runga; written by Cass Basil and Bic Runga; mixed by Kody Nielson; recorded at 'The Box' Studio; mastered by Brian Gardner, and supported by NZ On Air. It will be released via all streaming services on Friday 9 October.
