The fourth New Zealand Music Producer Series will be held in Auckland from Oct 29 - Nov 9, 2019.
Presented by Recorded Music New Zealand, curated by producer Greg Haver, and with support from NZ On Air, APRA AMCOS NZ, SAE Auckland, The New Zealand Music Commission and Auckland Council | Auckland UNESCO City of Music and Mt Atkinson Coffee, the series brings internationally renowned producers and engineers to New Zealand to work with the country’s best studio professionals on recording and mixing workshops, along with public seminars*, all to be held at Roundhead Studios in Auckland.
*Public seminars in Auckland and Wellington will be announced 13th September
This year we are pleased to announce that the visiting producers are Andrew Scheps and Mark Rankin.
Andrew Scheps has an impressive career working with a varied range of artists, including; Red Hot Chili Peppers, Adele, Metallica, Black Sabbath, Beyonce, Hozier, Green Day, Lana Del Rey, Justin Timberlake, U2 and Jay-Z. He received Grammy Awards for his work on Red Hot Chili Peppers'Stadium Arcadium, Adele's 21, and Ziggy Marley's Fly Rasta.
Scheps started as a musician, playing jazz trumpet, but was more interested in working in the sound and recording arena. This led him to study at the University of Miami. After graduating, he spent time working for Synclavier, then went on the road with Stevie Wonder and mixed live sound for Michael Jackson. He honed his craft working with producers such as Rob Cavallo, Don Was and Rick Rubin. Working out of his Punkerpad West studio in Van Nuys, California he built up an impressive list of vintage equipment which was also used to model the Scheps Waves Audio range of plug-ins. He has become a pioneer of ‘in the box’ mixing and his techniques are widely used and admired throughout the recording industry.
Scheps will be hosting a four-day production and engineering workshop from Oct 30 - Nov 2 (see below for application details).
Mark Rankin is a British recording engineer, mixer and producer. He’s a regular collaborator of producers Paul Epworth, Mark Ronson, Rich Costey and Josh Homme. His credits include critically acclaimed albums by Adele, Queens of the Stone Age, Foster the People, Florence and the Machine, Iggy Pop and Bloc Party. He received two Grammy Awards for Adele’s 21 and a nomination for his engineering and mix work Queens of the Stone Age’s …..Like Clockwork.
Rankin began his career in 2004 as house engineer at London’s The Exchange studios. After teaming with Paul Epworth, the pair worked on a wide range of albums including: Plan B’s The Defamation Of Strickland Banks, Cee Lo Green’s The Lady Killer, and Florence and the Machine’s Lungs and Ceremonials, culminating their work on Adele’s 21. Mark has been working in Los Angeles for several years and has become a studio regular for Queens of the Stone Age, including co-producing the band with Mark Ronson on the album Villains. He also won The Music Producers Guild Award for Breakthrough Engineer of the Year in 2010, Engineer of the Year 2015 and has been nominated in his capacity as engineer, mix engineer or producer every subsequent year.

Each seminar includes:
A four-day recording and mixing workshop with the selected producer at Roundhead Studio A and guaranteed attendance at the public seminars. Lunch and late afternoon tea are also included in the cost. The fee for each four-day seminar is $600 plus GST.
