Kiwi pop sensation Andrew Papas (Nicole Thomas & Paula Yeoman) is back with a new single ‘Magical’.
‘Magical’ starts as an understated, stripped-back tune, with Papas’ flawless vocals glistening above a simple beat. But the pace picks up when the sizzling pop/R’n’B beats kick in, and the song grows to a frenetic, beat-heavy climax; Papas’ unmistakable, powerhouse of a voice bringing it home.
‘Magical’ embodies that notion of the one person who always manages to bring out the ‘sexy side’ in you. “That person who makes you feel comfortable enough to let down your guard and let your wild side take over,” explains Papas. “I think we all have a wild side; it just depends whether we are comfortable enough to let people see it.”
Produced and co-written with Auckland-based producer William Henderson, who has worked with the likes of Kiwi R’n’B singer Sharnar, ‘Magical’ sees Papaspushing into new territory with his sound and songwriting.
“I feel like I’m at a stage in my career, where my sound is maturing and where I can talk more openly about this kind of stuff, and actually know what I’m talking about,” he says.
Papas first made his mark on the New Zealand music scene as a member of the band Titanium. He's now striding ahead as a solo artist with several pop bangers to his name, including ‘Troublemaker’, which Papas released earlier this year. The catchy pop track reached #2 in the NZ Viral Chart and also debuted at #2 in the New Zealand Heatseekers Chart.
