The new single from Auckland latin soul group Latinaotearoa (Roberto Mukai) is a vibrant, upbeat version of Raphael Saadiq's neo-soul cult classic, 'Skyy, Can You Feel Me'. The single features Laughton Kora, from popular kiwi band of brothers, Kora, and will be released through Mucho Aroha Music on February 9 via iTunes, Spotify and Bandcamp.
The refreshing move featutres the core duo of Brazilian DJ Bobby Brazuka and Venezualan songstress Jennifer Zea, joined by traditional jazz trained musician Guy Harrison providing searching riffs on keys and Puerto Rican percussionist Miguel Fuentes driving the tempo with his congas. Laughton Kora delivers the final layer of soul with his expressive lead vocals, intertwining with Jennifer Zea in a moving duet. This New Zealand cover swings, struts and steps much more than the 2002 produced original.
'Skyy, Can You Feel Me', featuring Laughton Kora, is the third single from Latinaotearoa's upcoming album and follows on from the hugely successful Bossa Nova meets West Coast hip hop single 'Jazzy Samba', featuring Team Dynamite which was released in October 2017 and 'Leave It', which was released in May 2016.
