From the first word to the last, Wildfires will take each listener through a journey of the bittersweet tang of leaving home, the fragility of first love & the importance of family told from an honest, travel loving heart from Southern NZ.
On October 22nd, Jenny Mitchell will release her sophomore album – Wildfires. Jenny’s previous album, The Old Oak, debuted at #1 on the NZ Country iTunes Charts and #2 on the Independent Music NZ Charts, receiving critical acclaim around the globe. John Apice, from No Depression Magazine, perhaps put it best when he said Jenny ‘doesn’t deserve to be discovered 40 years from now. She deserves to be listened to now.’
At just 19 years of age, Jenny has won a NZ Gold Guitar Award, an MLT Songwriting Award and was named Southland Entertainer of the Year. She’s a graduate of the Australian Academy of Country Music and is one of New Zealand’s brightest rising stars, moulding country, folk and Americana into her own unique style. And at the heart of it all is her love of storytelling.
Mitchell’s versatility and storytelling is rapidly capturing fans across the globe. She’s comfortable with a country twang or softly spoken ballad, and despite her eclectic influences Wildfires is a smooth narrative that’s equal parts heartbreaking and life affirming. Recorded by an All-Australian cast, with award winning producer Matt Fell at the helm, the album has always been destined for success with the likes of Shane Nicholson (acoustics), Glen Hannah (electric guitar), Luke Moller (fiddle) and Josh Schuberth (percussion & drums) supporting the journey.
‘I couldn’t have asked for a better team to create this next chapter of my musical career and as a result, I couldn’t be prouder of this record,’ says Mitchell. ‘I hope the ears it falls on can immerse themselves in it as much as I did.’
After a release show in her hometown of Gore, Jenny will be touring her new record in Australia (see below dates) & playing release shows in NZ in 2019.
