DJ Alisha, Arcee Rapper, DJ Mali and Missy G join the bill
The countdown is on to Theia’s (Nicole Thomas and Paula Yeoman) first-ever headline tour of New Zealand to celebrate the release of her self-titled debut EP.
Presented by ZM and Eccles Entertainment; the Kiwi electro-pop sensation and her band are playing at Neck of the Woods in Auckland on Thursday, July 6; Meow in Wellington on Friday, July 7 and Blue Smoke in Christchurch on Saturday, July 8.
The shows will follow the release of Theia’s self-titled EP out on June 30. Today she announced opening acts for each of the cities:
At Neck of the Woods, she’ll be supported by two of the hottest acts Auckland’s bustling music scene has to offer - DJ Alisha and Arcee Rapper.
DJ Alisha is guaranteed to fill up a dance floor with her atmospheric and high energy beats. As the resident DJ at some of the city’s best known clubs and bars, she’s a familiar face - but more importantly one of the best party starters there is.
Arcee Rapper is a 24-year-old lyricist from Manchester, England. Since stepping off the plane in Wellington in 2003 she has developed a sound unlike many rappers you hear today. Arcee will have you hooked on her very own genre - ‘Piano Rap’.
DJ Mali will open for Theia in Wellington. Since starting out on the DJ circuit a couple of years ago, she has played in various cities around New Zealand supporting international acts like Guilty Simpson and Black Milk, as well as local favourites, Drax Project.
In Theia’s home-town of Christchurch, she’ll be joined by DJ selector Missy G. Having held down a number of residencies, and as the host of Girlschool on RDU 98.5FM, Missy G champions vinyl and serves up a selection of riot beats and crosses genres from electro, rock, funk, soul, hip-hop dub and more.
It makes for an exciting ‘girl power’ line-up at each show.
Theia burst onto the music scene with her electro-pop anthem ‘Roam’, which became one of the biggest hits released by a New Zealand artist in 2016. Singles ‘Champagne Supernova’ and ‘Treat You’ followed, establishing Theia as “one to watch”.
“There are very few moments inyour life when you listen to a song by a new artist for the very first time and instinctively know that they’re going to be huge, but with Theia I truly do feel like it’s a total inevitability. Her mad talent combined with her bad-ass, empowered female outlook on life is going to have her sky-rocketing to stardom”
- The Speakeasy
It paves the way for the Christchurch-born singer’s debut EP, THEIA, out on June 30 and which she will perform on this tour. The shows come hot on the heels of Theia’s recent trip to the United States where she performed a showcase at MUSEXPO and an Australian tour supporting electro act The Kite String Tangle.
It is the first time Theia has played her own shows in Auckland, Wellington and her hometown of Christchurch. Don’t miss your chance to see her up close and personal in three great Kiwi venues.
