Of Hakka Chinese heritage, Malaysian-born and bred Square is an arts manager and creative producer passionate about developing high-quality artists and experiences that balance creative expression, community and commercial sense.
Square is Partner for Artist Management in Auckland-based arts agency SquareSums&Co, managing the Modern Māori Quartet (MMQ), Aotearoa’s leading award-winning contemporary Māori showband, as well as International Samoan Stand-up Comic Superstar Tofiga Fepulea’I, focusing on artistic, market, business and strategic development. Beyond MMQ and Tofiga, Square works with a broad range of artists in various capacities, including James Roque, Arjuna Oakes and The Shanghai Sisters.
Square is an experienced Chartered Secretary specialising in non-profit governance, with a law degree from Cardiff University and an M.A. in Arts Management from Whitecliffe College of Arts & Design. He is an advisor to The Oryza Foundation, an Executive Committee member of the recently established Alliance of Agents & Distributors and a former member of the Ethnic Peoples Advisory Panel for Auckland Council.
