Rising New Zealand indie-pop artist RIIKI brings the goods with her new single, ‘High Heights’, released today. A head-bopping soak-up-the-sun pop tune, ‘High Heights’ matches the sweetness of RIIKI’s vocals with a catchy summer time chant.
The shiny new single was recorded both in Wellington and Auckland, where RIIKI worked with Roundhead Studios mixing/production prodigy Simon Gooding once again, this time to co-produce the track as a power duo. Simon’s impressive resume of production credits includes Ed Sheeran, P!nk, Dua Lipa and Migos to name a few.
Of ‘High Heights’, RIIKI says “There’s a quirky and very light-hearted mood to the song, it’s about an odd and funny story to do with a seagull which was getting bullied by other seagulls, because I fed it a chip.... I’ve never gained inspiration from something as weird as observing seagulls before, but I was inspired to write a track about being belittled by someone, but proving you are a bigger person than them. I guess I used the scenario as a good metaphor, and you wouldn’t have had a clue unless I told the story”.
‘High Heights’ follows RIIKI’s debut single ‘One Day’, which premiered on NZ’s hit radio network ZM and became play-listed on Spotify’s biggest independent artists and labels ‘Fresh Finds’ playlist, gaining an overtaking following in the US.
